I am a summertime mudpie princess.

I am mama baking.

Red mud I dig, mix in water

make a thick paste

like holiday fudge.

Snatched up like a rag doll

I am scrubbed and soaked

powdered with lilac,

ritualistically prepared

for the Marcel hot comb.
